Wine tour of Rome Region

For over 2500 years they have been travelling the short distance outside the eternal city to experience
the beauty and freshness of the verdant hills known as the Castelli Romani

Meet the ancient inhabitant of the region when it was a part of Etruria where the Etruscan civilisation developed and disappeared between 770 - 100 B.C. and they left behind them towns surrounded by large and colourful necropolis excavated directly in the volcanic tuff stone, and the heritage of the culture of the vineyards and the olive groves.

You will not only visit historical sites of great relevance and interest, but savour a cultural and gastronomic legacy
developed over untold generations. You will meet and spend time with locals whose warmth and cheerfulness is matched only by their pride in their cultural traditions and their willingness to share them.



Day 1 - ROME
At the arrival to Rome airport, you will be met by our tour leader and transfer you by private coach to the Hotel reserved making a panoramic of the most important monuments of Rome such as Basilica of S. Paolo, the Coliseum, the Forum and ending at the hotel . Diner at restaurant with the typical dishes of Rome. Overnight in Rome.

Day 2 - ROME
After breakfast, guided visit to St. Peter's Cathedral and Vatican Museums. Free lunch in Rome In the afternoon, guided visit to Renaissance and Baroque Rome with its world-famous Squares and Fountains. Dinner in a typical wine cellar of Ariccia near Rome outside the walls of the Palace at a "fraschetta", or local eating house ; the speciality of Ariccia the "porchetta". Oven roasted and seasoned pork, this aromatic dish is allowed to cool to room temperature then eaten with delicious Genzano bread, along with seasonal vegetables and of course local red wine.
Return to the hotel for the overnight

Day 3 - CASTELLI ROMANI: km 45
After breakfast, departure to visit the most characteristic places of the Castelli Romani. Along the "Road of the Lakes" passing through one of the hilly areas of volcanic origin which characterize the outskirts of Roma: visit the town of the Summer residence of the Pope: Castelgandolfo, eating in a local gastronomic delicacies by the Lake of Albano.
In the afternoon we will stop in Marino and Rocca di Papi for they DOC white wines and visit the site of ancient Tusculum which sits high on a rolling hill with sweeping views and explore the ruins of the villas of the ancient nobles. We will head downhill to the town of Frascati which is now one of the primary urban centre of the Castelli Romani and famous for its DOC white wine production.
Visit of a typical wine cellar where you can taste local wines and food.
Return in the evening to the hotel for dinner and overnight

Day 4- CASTELLI ROMANI km 45
After the breakfast Departure again for the Castelli Romani to Lanuvio, This ancient agricultural town overlooking vineyards and olive groves has its origins in the migrations occurring after the sack of Troy, in Greece, in the 11th century B.C. and predates Rome's founding by 200 years. Today it is known for its Colli Lanuvini DOC wines .that we will enjoy tasting at the winery of an award winning producer. and visit a "frantoio" to see the process of turning olives into oil.
After the lunch in Ariccia in local tavern; visit the ancient Ducal Palace The original furnishings of the palace have been preserved almost entirely and it also houses a large collection of masterpieces. In the 1960's, the palace was the setting for the interiors of the film "The Leopard" by Luchino Visconti, starring Claudia Cardinale and Burt Lancaster.
We will keep on to Nemi for a walking tour of this picturesque town that overlooks the small volcanic lake . Nemi is also famous for it's wild strawberries. Stop to taste the delicious strawberry cakes and savour a traditional aperitivo of prosecco with wild strawberries.
Dinner will be set in a restaurant located just below the town of Genzano di Roma. You will be offered traditional cuisine in the suggestive setting of a medieval cantina built on the site of an important military victory by the Roman general Marco Furio Camillo in 389 BC .Return to the hotel for the night.

Day 5- ETRUSCAN WINE' S WAY Km 120
After breakfast we leave for Cerveteri to get back in the history when Lazio was a part of Etruria where the Etruscan civilisation developed and disappeared between 770 - 100 B.C.. The town of Cere (Cerveteri) was, as all Etruscan towns surrounded by large necropolis, because the Etruscan civilisation considered the life after death most important.
The huge family tombs was excavated directly in the volcanic tuff stone and all utensils used during the daily life person in the life after dead.
Our day start at Cerveteri with a visit to Cerveteri wine cellar cooperative for wine taste a light snack, then on to Centocorvi wine cellar that study the old Etruscan proceed: wine taste and snack Finally we will arrive at the Banditaccia necropolis with an extension of 450 hectares a really town
with tombs reproducing the living people houses similar to the urban life we will take a small electric open train to make the complete tour which will take us back in the past for a long tour old over 3000 years.
After to recuperate the present we will stop at another wine cellar for tasting wine with a snack. We will go to visit also the magnificent and outstanding medieval walled borough of Ceri With a stopover at the cellar of the Castello di Torre in Pietra for a last wine taste and snack
The return roads that cross the area between the sea and the Bracciano Lake are all excavated in the tuff stone by the Etruscans, the nature are excellent for beef and sheep, brooding.
The beauty of nature and landscape, the historical and cultural heritage with its archaeological and artistic richness: are the ingredients having made Etruria a desired destination appreciated by visitors from all part of Italy and the world.Diner and overnight in the hotel .

Day 6-ROMAN LITORAL km 130
After breakfast in the hotel we leave Rome driving south in the same direction of Via Appia Antica the antique Roman road that was built by the consul Appius Claudius, the road was built over the drained plain in the southern part of Lazio in 300 B.C.. This huge plain is today cultivated with vegetables, fruits and farms with buffaloes producing milk for the famous "Mozzarella di Bufala".Visit of a Biological farm of Buffalos products ,you will assist to the making of the daily products and taste the various cheese production We will travel toward the sea e for lunch.
After we will visit the old medieval town of Nettuno and be guest of a local wine producer to visit the vineyard and taste their fine wine. Late afternoon return to Rome to our hotel for dinner and overnights.

Day 7 ROME AIRPORT
After the breakfast in the hotel . We will leave for the airport in time for your flight back home . End of our service .

Italian wine tour of Central Italy
ROME, TODI, ORVIETO, ASSISI, SPOLETO.


Day 1 - ROME:
Arrival in Rome airport ,meeting and Transfer to the Hotel . In the afternoon Guided and panoramic visit of the "Eternal City" build on seven hills on the banks of the river "Tiber". See the unique Ancient, Renaissance and Baroque monuments and churches. Dinner and overnight at the hotel just outside of Rome

Day 2 - ROME:

Day 3 - CASTELLI ROMANI: km 40
After breakfast, departure to visit the most characteristic places of the Castelli Romani. Along the "Road of the Lakes" passing through one of the hilly areas of volcanic origin which characterize the outskirt of Roma: Colli Albani, Castelgandolfo, Ariccia, Rocca di Papa, noted for their culture and gastronomic delicacies .
We will stop in various wines cellars to taste the different white and red winedirectly from the producer in the afternoon we will arrive at Frascati, popular both for its beauty and considerable production of wine. Visit of a typical wine cellar where you can taste local wines and food. Return in the evening to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 4 - ROME-TODI - ORVIETO- ASSISI : km 250
After breakfast, departure to the city of Todi. Free visit of the city dominating the Tiber Valley and famous for its churches, palaces , Etruscan and Roman monuments ;then continue to Orvieto, situated on a hill and world famous for its' magnificent cathedral. Stop for lunch in a typical tavern; then discover "Underground Orvieto", with its caverns full of history, situated under the heart of the City and taste the local and famous wine in a near vineyard Late in the afternoon on to Assisi for dinner and overnight in the hotel in the region.

Day 5 - ASSISI - BEVEGNA - MONTEFALCO-ASSISI : km 70
: Breakfast. In the morning guided tour of Assisi ,known for the Basilica of St. Francis, consisting of two churches built on top of each other.The Lower Church guards the remains of the saint, while the upper Church is decorated with 28 frescos, showing scenes from his life, painted by Giotto. Free lunch . In the afternoon travel to Bevagna, ancient city, unique for its Piazza Silvestri, free from all symmetry and consisting of two churches andPalazzo dei Consoli. Free visit to the ancient town of Montefalco. A city that offers views of extraordinary beauty, celebrated in literature and remembered with the name "Balcony of Umbria".Visit and taste to the production area of the wines Sagrantino D.O.C.G. and the Rosso di Montefalco D.O.C.. Return to hotel in for dinner and overnight.

Day 6 - ASSISI-DERUTA - TORGIANO-ASSISI: km 80
After breakfast departure to Deruta, enchanting little town famous for the manufacturing and exposition of artistic ceramics. Possibility to visit a ceramic factory. free time for lunch In the afternoon visit of Torgiano, city of the Lungarotti D.O.C.G. and DOC wines. Visit the famous wine cellars, the Wine Museum with wine tasting.Dinner and overnight in hotel

Day 7 - SPOLETO - FONTI DEL CLITUNNO - TREVI- ROME : km 290
After breakfast departure to Spoleto and visit of this fascinating city, at the feet of the Rocca Albornoziana. Stop at the enchanting and often praised springs of the Clitunno. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon visit of the medieval town of Trevi. Stop to taste a typical " bruschetta " toast with tomato and the typical olive oil Olio Umbro D.O.P.Return to Rome to the hotel for dinner and overnight

Day 8 - ROME :
After breakfast, free time and transfer to the airport in time for the check-in for your flight back home . End of our service
